Central Coast Marlins Junior Little League played three days of baseball over the October long weekend at the inaugural Greenies Cup at Cherrybrook. Our team did exceptionally well finishing equal 5th in an exciting 9-9 draw against Victorian team, the Rangers after defeating Macarthur 11-3 in the previous round.
Coach Scott Murray said, "The team were placed in the "pool of death" against the top teams from Ryde, Hills and Manly with our boys allowing only 25 runs in 21 innings of LL baseball! The comeback to 9-9 all was brilliant and literally a step in it with the runner called out at first as the "winning" run crossed the dish. The boys have come a long way since the NSW LL Championships with many Sydney Associations taking note. The CC is well and truly on the radar of the metro teams! well done young men. You represented the Coast, state well as Marlins." Well done!
After months of preparation including trial games against Ryde and Newcastle our Coasties U13 Little League team headed down to Milton Park, Ingleburn to compete in the NSW Little League Championships played over four days April 21 to 24.
Day one saw us playing against Ryde North and Hills South with losses in both games.
Day two displayed some great baseball with Coasties coming out bats swinging with an exciting game against Manly with lots of hits, a grand slam, home run, doubles and 14 runs earned against Manly which was more than any other club achieved against them throughout the competition. Final score 14-24.
Then we were back at it against Bankstown that afternoon with more hits including a triple that sent one of our players off with a knee injury. We looked to win this game, but went down by one run 6-5.

Day three was another nail biting game against Cronulla South with more hits and runs with Coasties unable to pull off a win. Our final game on day 4 was against Greater Western.
The aim of Little League tournament remains the same as it did in 1939, to give the children of the world a game that provides fundamental principles (sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork) they can use later in life to become good citizens. Whilst Coasties didn’t come away as winners of the tournament, 13 young boys came away as winners in life with friendships forged and memories firmly cemented forever.
Lionel Harris presenting the Character Award to Kai Mackintosh-Walsh
At the conclusion of the championships a player from each team was chosen as the recipient of the ‘Character Award’. This award showed that they embodied the spirit of Little League, Character, Courage, and Loyalty. Coastie Kai Walsh was the recipient of this award.
The Central Coast Baseball Association would like to thank Gosford Council for their generous sponsorship of our U13 Coasties Little League team to participate in the 2014 Little League State Championship at Milton Park 21- 24 April through the Developing & Recognising Talent (DART) programme.
Such assistance makes it possible for CCBA representative teams to participate in events such as this.
